Now you can find out more about unique New Year traditions from around the world.
Scottish people are well known for their quirkiness when it comes to celebrations, and New Year is no exception. The most significant custom is waiting for the person that enters the house to bring tradition gifts with them. Scotland is also apparently very fond of fire, as people perform fire shows all across the country.
If you’ve come to visit the Philippines for New Year, you should strictly keep to one tradition: during the celebration choose everything that has a round shape. Filipinos have a strong faith in round objects and them bringing luck. Eat round shaped fruits – the easiest way to do it is to follow into the Spain’s footsteps and eat grapes, and wear dresses with patterns that resemble circles in some way.
Belarusian New Year traditions include a competition for unmarried women that helps them predict who will be the first one to marry. Their married friend has to hide certain objects around the house, and whatever women find forecasts their future love life. Not as easy as clicking the mouse to send carte virtuelle nouvelle année, is it?

Long before the invention of the telephone islanders needed a certain method of communication, especially in an emergency or during hunting. Silbo Gomera – one of the endangered Canary Islands languages in which people communicate with La Gomera, off the coast of Morocco. The language is unique in that it is a whistle-like chirping birds. It is organized so that you can pass the usual language – in this case, Castilian Spanish communicate by whistling.

Long before the invention of the telephone islanders needed a certain method of communication, especially in an emergency or during hunting. This problem was solved by silbo where shepherds began to converse over long distances, through ravines and gorges. But even now, after the mobile phone whiz loses its relevance, because the island has a lot of places where there is no connection.

Homer and other Canary Islands whistling language brought the first settlers from North Africa. Their descendants have not learned how to talk. Current gomer speakers mastered human speech, but not forgotten how to whistle virtuoso.
Despite the fact that in the world at different times, there were other whistling languages silbo Homer – the only one among them which was fully developed and which still speaks an entire community. It is so well organized that any vowel or consonant may be replaced by a certain whistle. Depending on the height and the number of interrupts, these sounds can be distinguished from each other.

A few years ago, this unusual language, which is the cultural heritage of the island, is under threat of extinction. That’s when the government decided to make learning silbo Homero compulsory in school. Since then the situation has changed dramatically. Now almost all the natives understand the language and know how to whistle it.

Tourists coming to Homer, can make sure that silbo is used wherever possible. The locals like to arrange for guest funny show, demonstrating the capabilities of their native language.

“Even the dogs and sheep understand silbo – said the indigenous Homer dweller Jose. – I call them with a whistle, and they come running to me. With animals, we are whistling in a different way that to people.”

The history of Falkland Islands is fascinating, primarily because of its location. Stanley became a transit point for trade ships that headed for the east coast of America to the west. During the California gold rush of 1848, the number of vessels increased from 8 to 800, ship repair brought considerable profit, and the city flourished. In 1914 he built the Panama Canal, and many ships have changed their route. Since that time, the bulk of income economy Falkland Islands was the sale of licenses for fishing and agriculture. More than 100 wrecks, who tried to round Cape Horn, still lie along the rocky shores of the islands. It is assumed that the first Falklands saw Amerigo Vespucci, a shell of a second expedition to the shores of the new Lisbon mainland in 1504. Diaries and memoirs Vespucci spread his friends (especially King René II) - the authors of rumors and details about the incredible life of Italian traveler, including his involvement in the opening of the Falkland Islands.

Diaries and memoirs Vespucci spread his friends (especially King René II) – the authors of rumors and details about the incredible life of Italian traveler, including his involvement in the opening of the Falkland Islands.

Among the pioneers rank also Beano Palmieri de Gonnevillya about which little is known. In Argentina, it is believed that the island discovered member of the expedition of Magellan, pilot Esteban Gomez, deserted in 1520-1522 years in Spain. After that, the island was called by the abbreviation Sansonskimi ship Magellan “San Antonio.” According to the British version, the English pirate John Davis took refuge from the Spanish galleon behind rocks Falkland Islands in 1592 and became the first man to walk on the land. On the Falkland Islands and still living descendants of John Davis and his wife, Teresa. A. de Komargo Spaniard, whose ship was rounding South America from the East in 1639, also referred to as discoverers.

In 1690, English explorer John Strong named the strait between the major islands in honor of Anthony Falkland Keira, received in 1693 the title of First Lord of the Admiralty. The first description of the northern coast of the archipelago in 1694 was written by the English navigator Richard Hawkins. Serious studies conducted Islands Dutch explorer Sebald Weert, on maps of designated Sebaldinskimi. The name has changed over the Malvinas in 1764, when here came the French captain Louis Antonio Bougainville.

It is based on East Falkland (Gran Morino) French settlement, which is replenished fishermen from the port of Saint-Malo. In 1765, landed on the island armed wing John Byron, was built the fort of Port Egmont, and the islands of Great Britain declared the property. Under the pressure of the Spanish British left the island in 1770. In subsequent years, the territory of the islands then passed to the British, that the Spaniards, while in 1820, landed captain Dzhyuet. He proclaimed the island territory of Argentina, however, in 1833, they again became the property of the United Kingdom. Here is a brief overview of the history of the Falkland islands

Currently, the capital of the Cayman Islands is George Town, which is located on the western island of Grand Cayman.
It seems that the city has two souls, old and young.

Old soul – the ancient center of the city, consisting of houses and mansions of the colonial building style tropical bungalow. They are composed of limestone and coral blocks and traditionally tiled.

Sights typical of the capitals are located on islands. City Center – one of the attractions, it has not been changed since the eighteenth century. Another attraction is the fortress, which overlooks the harbor and the National Museum, which is located in the oldest house of Georgetown. On the north side of the museum is the church Elmslie and to the south – the area Panton.

The climate is warm and humid in city. Winter temperature is about 15 C, in the summer is twice as much. Most rain is coming, starting in May and ending October, at the same time comes a tropical storm that passed through the whole territory of the Cayman Islands.

It seems, from the XVIII century, where time stopped. Not amenable to the laws of logic and geometry of the winding old streets meander in all directions for no apparent reason. Only in the center remained a couple blocks of classic European construction.

The oldest building in the capital of Cayman Islands – Old Court Building – took up the National Museum of the Cayman Islands. During its more than 150-year history in its premises housed a prison and a dance hall, a court and a temple. Today, it found a place over four thousand items of colonization. Has an amazingly huge collection raised from wrecks with old coins. Maritime Museum of Treasures Cayman acquaint guests with a dashing pirate past of the island and show the famous diorama of the heyday of seafaring. You can also visit the Georgetown Lighthouse.

The soul of modern Georgetown rages in modern blocks, equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable business. The capital of the Cayman Islands – a major center for the offshore zone, which certainly left its mark: the fully equipped with the latest technology banking offices and limos parked car the most expensive models. Thousands of tourists arriving purchase goods in the tax-free shops in the heart of the new town, there people sell everything that you could want.

Canary Islands, as well as the island of Madeira, the Azores and the Cape Verde Islands are of volcanic origin. On each island of Canary Islands you can watch different tracks and signs of volcanic activity: scoria cones, fissure volcanoes, craters of different sizes, lava flows. Most impressive scenery formed the Collapses volcano on Tenerife island at 2,000 m, ie Las Cañadas caldera, in the center of which stands the volcano Teide. The word “caldera”, which geologists call the falls of this type, having the form of almost perfect circle and is often located at a considerable height, was born in the Canary Islands. This term, in Spanish means “pot” is used to refer to various volcanic formations. German geographer Leopold von Buch, who visited the Canary Islands in the early XIX century borrowed the name from Taburiente Caldera (Caldera jde Taburiente) on the island of La Palma, which was then regarded as a huge crater, but in reality it was just a badly damaged rock formation.

Canary Islands volcanic activity was formed by volcanoes that were under water 20 million years ago. The most intense volcanic activity took place 5 million years ago. The process of formation of the Canary Islands was gradually. The farther to the west, the younger of the island. The oldest rocks are found on the island of Fuerteventura, which has a total of volcanic origin of the island of Lanzarote. They both appeared 19 million years ago. So, both the eastern islands with the lowest relief are the most ancient. Located just west of the island of Gran Canaria, which is not less than 17-18 million years. La Gomera 15 million years old, while the formation of Tenerife began only 13-14 million years ago, though Homer is west.

From the time of ancient cataclysmic volcanoes in the archipelago is not extinguished. The last eruption took place in 1971, then erupted Tenegufa, located in the south of the island of La Palma. Here in 1949 was a volcanic eruption of San Juan. Even earlier, in 1909, the volcano on Tenerife huffed Chinero, located dozens of kilometers from the volcano Teide. This was the first of three eruptions in the Canary Islands were observed in this century.

Last eruption was in 1798, when lava flowed into Las Cañadas caldera in the south-western slope of the volcano Pico Viejo, located near the Teide. Lanzarote’s last eruption recorded in 1824, but it was much less devastating eruption, which occurred in the area of Timanfaya in 1730-1736 gg. Then the entire West Bank, the third part of the island was covered by lava. History is the only eruption on the island of El Hierro, where in 1793 the volcano awoke Lomo Negro, located in the west of the island. Chronicle eruption started in 1409, when the colonization of the island of Lanzarote. Tenerife – the last of those captured by the Spanish Canary Islands with volcanic activity – taken over by the Spanish in 1496, is quite possible that some of the eruptions occurred in the past, before the end of the XV century., But went unnoticed. So, some of lava from volcanoes end Teide and Pico Viejo (in fact it is the same volcano) cannot be dated accurately. The exception is the eruption, which occurred in 1492, it was observed in the way of Christopher Columbus to the New World, and the event was noted in his travel diary.

The map of Cayman Islands: they are located in the north-western part of the Caribbean, between Cuba and Jamaica and combine three islands: Grand Cayman, Little Cayman and Central Cayman. The archipelago is part of the British Dominions, and administered by the Governor representing the Queen of Great Britain.

Christopher Columbus discovered the island in 1503, gave them the name Las Tortugas (in Spanish – “turtle”), and later the island was named after the caiman alligator, also vodivshihsya in abundance. The beautiful beaches of white sand, plenty of places for diving and snorkeling, well developed infrastructure are attracting visitors from all over the world.

Climate Cayman Islands
Is tropical. Average temperatures of 15 C to 30 C from May to October (summer, rainy season, but the showers are short-term), the temperature almost constant at around 29 C, in winter (November to April), dry and relatively cool, the average daily temperatures from +17 C to +24 C. Rainfall is about 1300 mm. year. During the summer, frequent tropical storms and hurricanes.

The West Bay and reefs along the coast of North Sound on Grand Cayman, offer a great selection of sites for snorkeling and relaxing on the beach. Victoria House Reef off the coast of the Bay West Bay, close to the famous Seven Mile Beach, is full of fish, crustaceans and sponges-orange trumpets. Reef North Wall near Jackson Point on Little Cayman is a place of concentration of rays and barracudas, turtles and masses of coral reefs in all colors and sizes. Cayman Brac has a small “gardens” of an amazing coral “antlers” near its south-west coast and the steep underwater walls of the foot of the island, almost vertically lowered into the depths of the sea off the east coast.
Extremely popular attraction is a dive to the “Atlantis Deep Explorer.” This submarine was built specifically for the tourist to dive to great depths and can carry two passengers, dropping them to a depth of up to 330 m, where a bizarre underwater world, inaccessible to conventional immersion, begins.

You do not need a map of Cayman Islands to find plenty of shops duty free there, opening unlimited possibilities for your shopping.

Pirates Week in late October – early November, when the city transferred to the XVII century. Annual fishing tournament, which takes place in June, at which local residents and visitors to the island to test their skills in catching a variety of seafood.

Have you ever wondered where are the Falkland islands? They are located between 57 ° 49 ° W and 5 ° 42 ° S latitude in the Atlantic Ocean. Has the coastline of 1288 km. The archipelago consists of two large islands – East Falkland (Soledad) with an area of 5300 km2 and West Falkland (Gran Malvina) area of 6700 km2, and about 200 of dependent small islands. East and West Falkland are separated by a narrow strait in between their highly indented coastline.
Falkland Islands are a hilly area. The highest point – Mount Adam (706 m) is on West Falkland.

Falkland Islands have cool oceanic climate with uniform moisture content (about 700 mm of rain per year) with strong winds and frequent fogs. December and January are the wettest months. Average temperatures – not above +10 ° C, in January (summer) +18 ° C, in July (winter) +3 ° C.

Official language – English. The dominant religion – Protestant.

Relates to the discovery of the islands in 1520, colonization began in 1764, In 1833, the British took possession of the archipelago. The islands are a disputed territory between Argentina and Britain. The question of the ownership of the islands was discussed at several sessions of the UN General Assembly, to the paradise called on the governments of these countries to begin negotiations for a peaceful solution.

The colony administered by the Governor, appointed by the Queen of Great Britain, with a rum are the executive and legislative councils. The only political party allowed is the Progressive National Party of Falkland Islands. Trade Union Association – Federation of Labor, maintains ties with the ICFTU.

Area economy is based mainly on sheep and wool production. In 1976/77 there were 638 thousand sheep (644.2 thousand in 1974 / ’75). The largest producer of wool is English “Falkland Islands Company,” a swarm-owned 287 thousand sheep, as well as 46% of the land. The company controls a significant part of the local banks, trade and navigation. Assumes the existence of oil, not only in the colony, but also in the surrounding coastal waters. Potential areas of economic activities are tourism (about four thousand tourists in 1974, and 6 thousand – in 1976), the development of the living resources of the sea and plant is the main objective.

Currency – British pound sterling. The economy of the colony is almost entirely dependent on the price of wool exported to England. Except wool other products are also exported such as meat, hides, imported consumer, food, etc.
Constantly increases the cost of living. Because of the deterioration of the situation we see an observation of workers emigrating to other countries. Still wondering where are the Falkland islands?

Traffic in the state is the left-sided, speed in settlements 60-80 km / h, on thruways – 120 km / h, on some ways – 100 km / h, wearing seat belts is compulsory. If lights don’t function, traffic of autos is subsequent: who arrives the first – moves forward, which is rather uneasy principally at rush hour. It is best to take on lease an auto with total cover; accordingly, when motor vehicle accident happens, the insurer will redeem the value of repair. When taking on lease an auto the client must redeem a fee for a whole tank of benzine; lease organizations grant gratuitous state scheme and roads atlases. In Johannesburg you may find cars for sale Gauteng: Volkswagen, Toyota, BMW and Mercedes old model, as well as French cars: Renault, Peugeot, Citroen, and not that accepted Audi.

Rate of economics evolution of the country is oft fixed by the grade of its highways. Passenger interurban buses drive at velocity almost 120-130 km per hour, and each few hours conductors carry the salver with hot beverages. In the evening move you may watch TV, in case you wish to have a nap you will be given a pillow and blanket. Bus itineraries are uniting main towns – for instance Durban, Johannesburg, Cape Town, and differentiate by the frequence of operation. Baz-Bus agency organizes service from Johannesburg and Cape Town via the Drakensberg at quite moderate charges; these destinations are created mainly for your inhabitants hiking to enjoy the mounts.

The expenses of rail tickets are comparatively low in South Africa. High-priced trains such as “Blue Train” are created with maximum 72 customers, they are splendid and ride between Cape Town and Pretoria the Kruger Park and Pretoria, Port Elizabeth and Zimbabwe. The service is excellent conforming with highest standard like in the world’s best hotels. Trains decorated in old manner, simultaneously are appointed pursuant to modern concepts of conveniences. South African deluxe train “Blue Express”, is the most high-priced mean to peregrinate in South Africa, which was made rather as a form of entertainment for tourist presenting all brilliance, rich and luxe of this region, rather than the transport. Heavy traffic commuter trains are exclusively utilizing electric locomotives in terrains of the Witwatersrand, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town. Motion Control System enables the railway circuit to fit the rising haulage wants of South Africa and different countries in the neighborhood.

The company “South African Airways” (SAA) – the civil airline of South Africa, a participant of the Transborder Air Transport Association serves dense network of airlines. Airlines perform across-the-board international trips to thirty two countries, furthermore, 28 exterior airlines join SA with 46 exterior airports. In the state, the SAA provides more than 600 flights every week, linking all main cities. Notwithstanding, the safety is to be deliberate, latest one of the airplanes when taking off fell down to the ground because of one of the 2 movers broke down.

Non-standard question and few locations are being revised, to the territories with the biggest sum of drivers the government conveyed surplus monetary assets for Krugersdorp used cars for sale. Taxicab is the most comfortable, though much more expensive form of transfer in the dwellings of SA. There are 2 kinds of cabs – regular cab with the counter (defines charge for running and definitely mounted) and vehicles of private businesses (meters are normally vague and the price is arranged with the cabdriver).

Do not drive off the highways, if the windstorm is expected, after tropical tempests on many roads even off-road vehicles can not drive. On an untrodden roadway may all at once show up a child – the sands isn’t as deserted as may seem, so be cautious. Maintenance stations and petrol-stations on the roads are quite rife. Rivalry leads gas station employees to operate some of free services, particularly dry and wash the windshield.
